Key Statistics: RHP Eric Yost (W, 4-5), 7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K; RHP Nick Wissman, 1.0 IP, 0 H. 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K; SS Leodalis De Vries, 2-for-5, RBI, BB; CF Kai Roberts, 1-for-4, HR (2), R, RBI, BB
Prospect Watch: Fort Wayne stifled Dayton, thanks in large part to a sensational outing from Eric Yost, who allowed only one hit in seven innings while striking out nine. The 22-year-old righty has come alive in his third professional season. posting a 2.43 ERA across 12 starts to rank third in the Midwest League. While his fastball sits in the low-90s, it has great life and pairs well with a stellar curve. … Nick Wissman, who was born in Dayton and was drafted by the Padres out of the University of Dayton, threw a scoreless inning in his hometown for the visitors. The 2024 eighth-rounder owns a 6.59 ERA and 1.72 WHIP in his first 19 professional appearances, all in 2025. … Leo De Vries struck out three times, but he also had a much-needed two-hit night and drew a walk after struggling massively through June. Tonight marked the shortstop’s second multi-hit game of the month, and first since June 10. He is hitting just .155/.310/.241 this month despite strong walk and strikeout rates. … Kai Roberts belted his second home run in as many days and drew a walk out of the leadoff spot. After a slow start when he joined the TinCaps, the fleet center fielder has his OPS for the month up to .732. While the production is increasing, the 24-year-old has an alarming 36% strikeout rate through his first 102 plate appearances in the Midwest League.

Key Statistics: RHP Adam Conrad (W. 4-1), 2.2 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 2 K; RHP Xavier Ruiz (S,1), 2 IP. 3 K; DH Kavares Tears, 1-for-5. HR, R, 2 RBI; 3B Zach Evans, 2-for-5, R, RBI; 1B Lamar King Jr. 1-for-3, 2 BB
Prospect Watch: The Storm rallied to victory thanks in part to Adam Conrad, who overcame allowing two inherited runs to score to settle things down in the middle innings and earn his fourth win of the year. The 22-year-old righty from North Carolina has allowed only three earned runs in 31-plus innings, good for a 0.85 ERA. He’s held opponents to just a .153 average, but has skirted trouble all year by walking 23. … While Xavier Ruiz‘s brief promotion to Fort Wayne was possibly premature, his return to Lake Elsinore has shown moments of dominance. The 22-year-old tossed two perfect innings Saturday to collect his first save of the season in his third opportunity. Ruiz converted eight of ten save opportunities with the Storm in 2024. … It was a little bit of all or nothing for Kavares Tears, who struck out three times but also provided the deciding runs with a two-run home run when he jumped a first-pitch fastball. The 134th overall pick of the 2024 draft, Tears is batting .252 with eight home runs in 286 at-bats in his first professional season. … Zach Evans went 2-for-5 with a run scored as well as a run batted in. ACL Mariners 17, ACL Padres 2
Key Statistics: RHP Tanner Smith 1.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R (3 ER), 2 BB, WP; RHP Jimmy Reyes IP, 3 H, 5 ER, 4 BB, Balk; Darlin Mendez 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K; 1B Kale Fountain 2-for-4, 2B, BB; SS Emil Turbi 2-for-4, 2B
Prospect Watch: The Beach Boys’ single “Darlin'” was a career highlight in relatively dark times for the band after the collapse of their anticipated SMiLE LP. In Peoria, Darlin Mendez was the only Padres pitcher who did not allow an earned run in some bedlam on the backfields. The 20-year-old righty is 0-1 with a 9.35 ERA thus far in the 2025 season. … Another bright spot was Kale Fountain, who went 2-for-4 with a double and made it through all nine innings in the field at first base. While he had a pair of errors in the contest, the 2024 fifth-rounder extended his hitting streak to six games and lifted his OPS to .911 in 71 at-bats in the desert. … Switch-hitting infielder Emil Turbi went 2-for-4 with a double. The 20-year-old infielder got a brief taste of full-season baseball in Lake Elsinore before returning to the desert, where he finished off 2024 after beginning the campaign in the Dominican Republic. With Yimy Tovar now in Lake Elsinore, Turbi should see plenty of action at shortstop over the last three weeks of the ACL season.
